Fans were thrilled to find out the TLC reality series 1000-Lb Sisters is returning for a second season. Since its debut in Jan. 2020, viewers fell in love with these two siblings and became invested in their weight loss quest.

And a new trailer proves that the drama will be intense in the next season, too. Amy Slaton was able to get the bariatric surgery she wanted, but Tammy Slaton was still working toward her goal. Season 2 will focus on Tammy trying to qualify for surgery plus Amy’s ill-advised pregnancy.

Plus, there’s another player on the scene: Tammy’s boyfriend Jerry Sykes. The trailer makes it clear that Amy is skeptical of his intentions for her sister. Here’s why.

‘1000-Lb Sisters’ follows 2 sisters who got famous on YouTube

The Slaton sisters first got noticed on their YouTube channel, where they showed off their quirky and hilarious personalities and shared details of their lives in Kentucky. After attracting enough fans, Amy and Tammy caught the attention of TLC casting execs and the rest is history.

The first season of 1000-Lb Sisters focused on Amy and Tammy working toward the same goal of getting bariatric surgery. Both were instructed to lose a specific amount of weight to qualify for the surgery, but only Amy achieved that milestone. At the beginning of the series, Tammy weighed 406 lbs while Amy weighed 605 lbs, bringing their combined weight to over 1,000 lbs.

Post-surgery, Amy lost 124 lbs. but revealed in the season 2 trailer that she got pregnant just 4 months after going under the knife, which was against her doctor’s orders of waiting at least 2 years.

Tammy’s boyfriend Jerry Sykes is a bit of a mystery

No one knows much about Tammy’s boyfriend Sykes, but a Twitter exchange between her and some fans revealed a few details. In February, she posted a photo collage with him with the caption, “Bae for life.”

Later in the comments, several fans started saying Sykes was married and Tammy responded to those by saying she already knew that detail.

“Are you aware that I do know he is married and his wife is very sick so you ain’t telling me nothing I don’t know,” Tammy said in reply to their concerns.

She defended the relationship several times while followers kept questioning it.

Whether he’s married or not, Tammy’s sister Amy has some very different concerns for her sister.

The season 2 trailer posted on Facebook shows Tammy meeting up with Sykes and later meeting up with her family. When asked if he wants Tammy to get the weight loss surgery, Sykes says, “Yes.” But Amy isn’t so convinced.

“But you like big girls,” Amy counters in the preview. Next she says, “I don’t trust him,” implying that Sykes might hinder Tammy’s weight loss for his own selfish reasons. “She needs somebody that’s gonna motivate her in this weight loss, not just want her to stay the way she is,” Amy continues.

There’s a good chance fans will find out more about Sykes in the coming season. But for now, it looks the standoff between love and family could get tense.

1000-Lb Sisters returns to TLC Jan. 4, 2021.
