Courtney Williams’ consecutive 3-pointers in the last 35 seconds of overtime lifted the Atlanta Dream to their fourth consecutive win, a 90-87 overtime victory over the New York Liberty at Brooklyn, N.Y., on Saturday.
Williams’ 3-pointer with 34.7 seconds left in overtime tied the game at 87.
Michaela Onyenwere, whose 3-pointer with 1:17 left put the Liberty ahead 87-84, missed a shot from beyond the arc with 11.5 seconds remaining.
After a timeout, Atlanta (4-2) isolated Williams and she dribbled away from DiDi Richards, thanks to a screen by Elizabeth Williams, and nailed a 3-pointer with 1.6 seconds left.
Courtney Williams finished with 31 points, 12 rebounds and seven assists.
Sabrina Ionescu’s desperation attempt after a timeout missed off the backboard. Ionescu, often matched against Courtney Williams, had only six points.
Onyenwere, a rookie from UCLA, had a career-high 29 points behind a 6-of-14 performance from 3-point range for New York (5-2).
Her 3-pointer cut the lead to 80-79 with 1:24 remaining in regulation.
After Courtney Williams missed a jumper, former Dream standout Betnijah Laney made two free throws with 46.3 seconds left to put the Liberty ahead 81-80 – their first lead since the first quarter.
Tiffany Hayes then missed a shot in the lane, Atlanta’s sixth consecutive miss, and Sami Whitcombe made one of two free throws with 25 seconds left gave New York an 82-80 lead.
Elizabeth Williams’ put-back of her miss tied the game with 10.6 seconds left.
Elizabeth Williams then blocked an attempt by Laney in the lane and Courtney Williams’ last-second runner hit off the rim at the buzzer, forcing the game into overtime.
Elizabeth Williams had 12 points, 11 rebounds, two blocked shots and two steals and Hayes added 12 points and six assists.
Chennedy Carter did not play after two minutes remained in the third quarter because of an arm injury. She had 12 points for the Dream.
Laney finished with 20 points and 11 assists but she also committed seven turnovers.
Whitcombe contributed to the Liberty’s 14 3-pointers in the game by going 5 of 7 from beyond the arc. She had 19 points and four steals.
