The Net Worth of Chumlee

How rich is Chumlee? As of late-2018, sources inform us of a net worth that is over $5 million, earned largely through a successful career on television, but also a significant amount from business. As he continues his career, it is expected that his wealth will also continue to increase.

Early Life and Career Beginnings

Chumlee is of mixed Mexican, Scottish, and Native American descent. Growing up, he gained the nickname due to his large chin and face. One of his friend’s father’s told him that he looked like the walrus character from the animated series entitled “Tennessee Tuxedo”, the character with the name Chumley. He eventually became friends with Corey “Big Hoss” Harrison as a child – the Harrison family were already running the Gold and Silver Pawn shop which began operations in 1989. He started working at the store at the age of 21, for five years before becoming a part of the series “Pawn Stars”.

Pawn Stars

“Pawn Stars” began airing in 2009, covering the activities of the Harrison’s pawn shop which is a 24-hour family business located in Las Vegas, Nevada. The show became highly popular, and the History Channel’s highest rated show. In each episode, the staff interacts with customers who bring in a variety of items and artifacts to sell or pawn. There is usually haggling involved, and a bit of historical information is also brought to the viewers. The show also features some interpersonal conflicts within the shop’s members in the cast.

Experts also make appearances to help appraise items and identify the cost. Some of these experts have gone on to become stars of their own spin-off shows, including “American Restoration” and “Counting Cars”. Chumlee is often depicted as the comic and the village idiot which he is referred as several times in the show. He does have an expertise when it comes to pinball machines and despite these labels, and became the breakout character of the series.

Business Expansion

As a result of his success in the show, Chumlee created his own company which arranges personal appearances, and sells a variety of mostly novelty items, including t-shirts that he designed; he sold half of his stake of the company in 2010 to Rick, to help the business run more efficiently. According to reports, the sales of his merchandise have surpassed every other cast member, and is attributed to his popularity. He has also tried his hand at acting, appearing in an episode of the series “iCarly”, alongside Rick and Corey Harrison. In 2017, he opened a candy shop called Chumlee’s Candy on The Boulevard, which is located just across the Gold and Silver Pawn Shop.

Controversies

In 2016, following an investigation into sexual assault allegations, police raided Chumlee’s home, and numerous illegal substances were found, including crystal meth, marijuana and a gun. They also found numerous legally owned firearms including rifles, a shotgun, and an MP5, all of which were stored in a vault. There were also bars of the anti-anxiety drug Xanax, and capsules containing methamphetamine, and traces of cocaine were found on his property. Chumlee was arrested, released on bond the following day, and subsequently charged with 20 counts of felony involving weapons and drugs. He pleaded guilty to the charges including gross misdemeanor of drug possession and unlawful possession of a firearm. This meant that he would serve three years’ probation, and undergo counseling.

After the death of his father due to pancreatic cancer, Chumlee became very conscious of his lifestyle and diet. In 2013, he lost around 34 kilograms within a year, which he attributed to a proper diet and exercising at the gym six times a week. His diet had him drinking more juice, abstaining from red meat, and eating more vegetables. The weight loss has allowed him to ride a hovercraft that he had purchased early in the series, which he initially couldn’t ride as it had a weight restriction of 110 kilograms.
