Twitter users speculate Pearl Fernandez, who was sentenced to life in prison for her son’s murder, was burned and tortured in prison. Is it true?
Pearl Fernandez is a Palmdale woman who pleaded guilty to the first-degree murder of her eight-year-old son.
The son, Gabriel Fernandez, suffered months of torture and abuse at the hands of his mother and her boyfriend, which eventually led to his death in 2013.
Pearl’s boyfriend, Isauro Aguirre, received the death penalty; whereas, Pearl received life imprisonment without the possibility of parole.
Pearl Fernandez Burned In Prison: What Happened To Gabriel Fernandez Mom In Jail?
Pearl Fernandez pled guilty to the first-degree murder of Gabriel Fernandez in 2017, after five years of her son’s death.
Although the prosecutors sought the death penalty for both Fernandez and her 40-year-old boyfriend Aguirre, the court sentenced her to life in prison without the opportunity for parole in 2018.
Only Aguirre was sentenced to the death penalty.
After they were sentenced, rumors started floating on social media that Fernandez was being tortured and burned in prison.
It is believed inmates give a hard time to a prisoner who has abused children. Last year, a Twitter user expressed their happiness after hearing she was getting beaten, sliced up, and burned in jail.
Another user also shared a clapping GIF, writing, “Apparently Peral Fernandez was beaten and burned with hot coffee in prison.”
It is worth noting that none of these rumors have been confirmed by official sources, so there’s a chance it’s just a rumor and nothing else.
Furthermore, Pearl Fernandez is alive and serving her sentence in Chowchilla State Women’s Prison, as per Distractify.
What Role Did Pearl Fernandez Play In Her Son Murder?
Pearl Fernandez’s exact role in her son, Gabriel’s murder is not exactly known, but she did admit to torturing him in the past.
Fernandez called 911 to report Gabriel was unconscious and was not breathing on May 22, 2013.
The paramedics appeared and rushed him to the hospital where they found he had a cracked skull, three broken ribs, and his teeth were teeth bashed out.
His lungs and groin were also severely injured with BB pellets. He died two days later. Moreover, he was starved and repeatedly abused throughout his eight-month stay with his mother.
Pearl’s boyfriend used to force him to eat the cat’s litter and feces and lock him in a drawer. Fernandez was aware of what was happening to the boy.
She had admitted the special circumstance allegation of international murder by torture but she later claimed she was not her son’s actual killer in per petition file, as per Los Angeles Times.
However, the Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge rejected her petition and stated she was not entitled to resentencing relief.
