East Harlem community members and organizations will come together to celebrate the life and legacy of artist and activist Hiram Maristany, August 10, 1945 – March 10, 2022.

Through a special memorial with the participation of Maristany’s friends and family.

Speakers include Felipe Luciano, co-founder of the Young Lords New York Chapter; Marta Moreno Vega, founder of the Caribbean Cultural Center African Diaspora Institute; Aladdin Ullah, writer, and performer; Susana Torruella Leval, President Emerita and former Executive Director of El Museo del Barrio, among others.

In addition, there will be a live musical performance by BombaYo!, as well as an art installation by artist Adrian ‘Viajero’ Roman.

Health & Safety Guidelines

All attendees must show proof of vaccination and ID upon request before entering the venue.

Face coverings are required at all times in El Teatro.

The Hiram Maristany Memorial is organized by the Friends of Hiram Maristany, which includes El Museo del Barrio, The City University of New York, The Center for Puerto Rican Studies at Hunter College, the Caribbean Cultural Center African Diaspora Institute, Artspace 109, as well as community leaders Debbie Quiñones, Melissa Mark-Viverito, Ana Chireno, Miguel Luciano, Adrian ‘Viajero’ Roman, Gus Rosado, Kathy Benson, and others.
