Governor Steve Sisolak updated Nevada’s mask mandate Monday, aligning the directive with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) guidance.

The CDC released the guidance April 27, saying fully vaccinated Americans don’t need to wear masks outdoors anymore unless they are in a big crowd of strangers. The new guidance also allows unvaccinated people to drop face masks in certain cases.

The guidance also says that nobody has to wear masks outdoors when they walk, bike or run alone or with members of their household. They also can go maskless in small outdoor gatherings with fully vaccinated people.

However, everyone should keep wearing masks at crowded outdoor events such as concerts or sporting events, the CDC says. The agency continues to recommend masks at indoor public places, such as hair salons, restaurants, shopping centers, museums and movie theaters.

Governor Sisolak signed Emergency Directive 045 with the following changes included:

Residents are required to cover their nose and mouth with a mask or face covering consistent with current guidance by the CDC.

Businesses should ensure all customers, patients or clients wear their face mask consistent with the directive.

The mandate also clarifies that fully vaccinated applies to those who received their second dose of the vaccine two weeks ago.
