A judge has sentenced a woman for murdering her husband inside their Washoe Valley home.

RENO — Shaunna Dodd, a 32-year-old Washoe Valley woman has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole after she was convicted of murdering her husband a few days after Christmas.

A judge sentenced Shaunna Dodd on Tuesday. A jury had convicted her of first-degree murder in October.

Washoe County sheriff’s officials said they found 37-year-old Brad Dodd shot dead inside the couple’s home on Dec. 29, 2012.

Deputies arrested Shaunna Dodd a few days later.

Prosecutors said the woman shot her husband before telling investigators others had broken into the home and killed him during a robbery.

Witnesses testified that Dodd had been plotting to kill her husband for months and had attempted to hire hitmen to carry out the crime.

A judge has sentenced a woman for murdering her husband inside their Washoe Valley home.

A jury convicted 32-year-old Shaunna Dodd of first degree murder last October for killing her husband, Brad inside their home.

The judge sentenced Dodd to life in prison without the possibility of parole, and an additional 20 years for a weapon enhancement.

Prosecutors say she shot him last December at their home and then told investigators people had broken in to rob her and killed her husband.

Witnesses told investigators she had been plotting to kill her husband for months and even tried to hire a hitman and poison him.

Second Judicial District Court officials say she’s waived the penalty phase and will now be directly sentenced by Judge David Hardy at a later determined date.

The jury deliberated for six hours before returning their verdict
