Bumble Boost Settlement: Scam or Legitimate Class Action Settlement? How to get 129 dollars?
Full details:
Users of the Bumble dating app can get up to $ 129 from a $ 22.5 million class action settlement that resolves automatic renewal claims.
There are two groups of group members: California consumers charged for automatic renewal of a Bumble Boost subscription between November 13, 2014 and July 15, 2020; and a class of consumers from across the country who purchased Bumble Boost between November 13, 2014 and July 15, 2020.
In 2018, a pair of class action lawsuits accused the creators of the dating app Bumble of failing to inform users of their legal right to unsubscribe from a “Boost” program. The complaints alleged that the subscription to Bumble Boost violated the automatic renewal laws of the state of California, as well as the laws of dating services in New York.
The plaintiffs claimed that they and other members of the group subscribed to the premium service Bumble Boost through the dating app Bumble. Fees for the service reportedly ranged from $ 8.99 to $ 139.99, depending on the duration of the “push,” from one week to six months.
The plaintiffs said that Bumble Boost’s Terms of Service did not clearly state that the subscription would automatically renew unless the user canceled. Additionally, Bumble allegedly made it difficult to unsubscribe from Boost.
Additionally, the subscription terms made it impossible to obtain a refund, allegedly one of the class action lawsuits, an additional violation of California law.
The creators of the dating app Bumble, Bumble Trading Inc. and Bumble Holding Ltd., “strongly” deny the allegations, but have agreed to pay $ 22.5 million as part of a class action settlement.
Additionally, the app developers have agreed to change the Bumble Boost subscription Terms and Conditions, which include:
Inform users nationwide of their right to unsubscribe and their ability to get a refund within three days of the initial purchase;
Inform users that their subscription will be automatically renewed unless the user cancels a minimum of 24 hours before the renewal date;
Send users a confirmation email that clearly describes the cancellation process; Y
The flow of subscription purchases will clearly indicate that they flow directly to Bumble and not to a separate platform.
Under the terms of the agreement, Class Members are entitled to one or both of the cash rewards. Class members nationwide are likely to receive between $ 21 and $ 44 for each claim. California Class Members will receive an additional payment, bringing the total of each valid claim to between $ 64 and $ 129.
Those who are members of both Classes are eligible to claim both cash prizes. The amount of the final award will depend on the number of claims submitted, and claims by Class Members nationwide are capped at $ 100.
To file a claim in the Bumble dating app class action settlement, Class Members must submit a claim form online or by mail. Class members who are members of the California and national classes must submit a combined claim form to participate.
Claim forms require a Claim Number, available on the notice postcard or email. Group members who did not receive notification will need to provide the email address and phone number associated with their Bumble account. Claim forms must be submitted by November 23, 2020, and payments will be submitted no later than March 1, 2021.
The deadline to opt out or object to the Bumble class action settlement is November 13, 2020. The final hearing is scheduled for December 16, 2020.
