On camera, Jamie Hector has been through menacing situations as a drug kingpin on HBO’s The Wire. Unbeknownst to many, he has been through a similar threatening episode in real life as well.
While awaiting the birth of his first child, Hector survived a near-fatal incident at his wife Jennifer Amelia’s baby shower party.
The Incident Happened in 2009
In July 2009, Hector was hosting a baby shower party in New York to celebrate his wife’s pregnancy. But the party abruptly turned into a crime scene as a gatecrasher stepped outside their home and started firing bullets.
The shocking gunfire killed a teenager at the spot while rendering two men injured. After a short while, police officials arrived to find two guns and 46 empty bullet shell casings.
Fortunately, no harm came to the Brooklyn native and his family.
Following the incident, Jamie released a statement relaying condolences to the victims’ families. He also mentioned that he had nothing to do with the crime that took place outside his home.
I would like to make it clear that the shooting incident [Sunday] did not take place at my home, nor did it involve me, my wife, nor any of the invited guests.
Going by the statement, the Bosch star was just a wall away from the horrible incident.
He Runs a Non-profit Organization
Wary of violence, Hector runs Moving Mountains Inc., a non-profit organization that intends to inspire inner-city kids through creativity.
While talking to News one, the African-American artist cited that brutality like the crime scene from his baby shower was why he came up with Moving Mountains. He shared he wanted to direct youths from violence to positive alternatives of art.
Through the NGO, the actor aims to decrease street violence by teaching vulnerable children the skills to make better choices for themselves.
Hector Shares Two Kids with Wife
The social activist is married to his long-time girlfriend, Jennifer Amelia. A wedding planner and event designer, Amelia is the founder of Jennifer Amelia Events, LLC.
Though both of them are public figures, neither of them has revealed when they got married.
That being said, the duo celebrates their wedding anniversary every August 22. On August 22, 2020, the Heroes actor took to Instagram to wish his wife on the special day.
The pair is parents to two children — a son and a daughter. They welcomed their daughter in 2009 and their son in 2016.
The Hector family lives in their Brooklyn, New York home.
Hector Has A Scar On His Face
The Wire actor has a visible scar on his left smile line that extends up to his jawline.
But he prefers to keep the story behind the scar to himself.
When asked how he got the face scar during an interview, Hector shared he uses the scar to produce emotions while acting but doesn’t like to talk about it.
